Journal // January 2024

It has been a bit since I have done a journal post. Here were our every-day January moments ❄

Tonsil & Adenoid Surgery

We kicked off January with a bang and Lydia had her tonsils and adenoids removed. It was a tough recovery but she is back to her normal self! CLICK HERE for more!

Deacon Ordination

Jacob was ordained a deacon in the Aaronic Priesthood. We couldn’t be more proud of him and who he is becoming. CLICK HERE for more.

Learning Moments

January was so refreshing when it came to our homeschool. After switching around Lydia’s therapy schedule we are finally in a good groove.

CNA Charting

I officially began my new “job” as Lydia’s personal CNA. Charting has become a part of my nightly routine.

Family Council

Our January family council was about our 2024 goals. This is always a great kick off to the year. It is fun to see where the kids are feeling drawn to with their goals – they always surprise me! CLICK HERE for more.

Ben-isms

Ben in Mark’s shirt – using it as a nightgown. I love him.

Baptisms in the Temple

Jacob was able to go to the temple for the first time and do baptisms for members of our family. It was such a sweet experience for Jacob and Mark. He has already gone several times since and I am so happy that Jacob is enjoying the sweet spirit of the temple. I know he can have many sweet experiences there. CLICK HERE for more.

Ancient History ✔

Jacob and Sarah finished their ancient history unit in history! We celebrated by making unleavened bread like the Israelites.

Pretty Winter Scene

Mark saw this one morning as he was leaving work. I cannot remember what it is called (he knows though). We live in a beautiful world.

Paper Snowflakes

Another item on our winter bucket list was to make paper snowflakes. This was something I picked and, honestly, everyone was a little less than enthusiastic about it when I added it. BUT once the night came and we started they were HOOKED. They loved making them and now there are paper snowflakes everywhere. It is so fun to have our schoolroom covered in a flurry of snowflakes.

Kingdoms and Classification

Jacob and Sarah started a new science unit – Kingdoms and Classification. This is probably my least favorite unit but they enjoy it! Luckily, I have Mark to step in and do all of the microscope experiments because it is just not my jam.

Therapies, Therapies, and More Therapies

Because we switched Lydia’s therapies around – she has two tiring day for her. She took a snooze from her horse therapy to speech and it was just too cute. She works so hard.

Activity Chair

After fourteen months of waiting – Lydia finally has her own activity chair! We were so excited for it to finally come. It was a tough one with insurance but it all worked out in the end. We couldn’t even remember when it looked like it had been so long since we had made those decisions. It fits her so well though and we love all of the features.

Sledding

This has been a strange winter. Very mild. BUT we did get a little bit of snow one day. The kids were so excited and tried their best to go sledding in our backyard.

Tooth Fairy

The tooth fairy has been hovering around our house a lot lately between Benjamin and Sarah!

A Tribute to John Williams Symphony Night

Mark gave the three bigs a night at the symphony for Christmas. The real winner is that the symphony was spotlighting the work of John Williams. The kids loved it (and Mark, of course). CLICK HERE for more.

Chocolate Snack Cake

One of Jacob’s goals is to spend more time in the kitchen. He baked us a chocolate snack cake for family home evening one night. It was delicious!

Lydia’s Room Refresh // Phase 1

Lydia moved into a big girl bed! Mark worked some magic to make her bed safe and snug for her. And then we had to add some faux limewash paint, and a couple other little extras. More fun to come! CLICK HERE for more!

Max and the Bees

Ben finished another unit in math!

This Sweet Face

Ice Skating

We finished up January with another ✔ on our winter bucket list – ice skating! CLICK HERE for more!

Bear Lake Puzzle

It seems like a silly goal but it has actually been very fun – and I think you need some of those goals mixed in there, too. I am horrible at puzzles. I am so slow. So this year I made a goal to do a puzzle a month. I had to stay up late on January 31st to get it done – but I did it!
