Faith, Life

Deacon

This has been such a big couple of weeks for Jacob. A lot of stretching in ways – but he is doing it and I am so proud of him!

Jacob is at an age where he, if found worthy of it, could be ordained a Deacon in the Aaronic Priesthood. It is amazing. A couple months ago, Jacob met with our Bishop and decided to move forward with this priesthood ordination.

It’s been wonderful to see Jacob prepare. A couple months ago I got him this book, Honoring the Priesthood by John Bytheway and he said that was helpful. We’ve also had the opportunity to talk about the priesthood so much as a family as well as Mark and I just with Jacob. It’s been a sweet and tender time.

It’s been neat to talk about how priesthood ordinances bless our family life as well as our ward family. I’ve loved talking about how God uses the priesthood to bless people. We’ve talked about priesthood keys and how we use priesthood in our callings. And I really loved talking with Jacob about his priesthood line of authority. And I have loved how many times I have walked in on him reading it since then.

The day finally came!

Since Lydia was still home recovering from surgery, our sweet Bishop and Elders Quorum President came over to our home so that I could witness the ordination as well. And we are very grateful my parents could be here for Jacob, too.

So happy that Jacob has such amazing men on his team.

It was such a sweet experience as a mom. It is a tender dream come true to watch your children make decisions that you know will make them happy. Eternally happy. It is thrilling and wonderful. Jacob is rising up and I couldn’t be happier.

President Russell M. Nelson has said:

My dear brethren, we have been given a sacred trust—the authority of God to bless others. May each one of us rise up as the men God foreordained us to be—ready to bear the priesthood of God bravely, eager to pay whatever price is required to increase his power in the priesthood. With that power, we can help prepare the world for the Second Coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

It was such a privilege for Mom and me to be present for Jacob’s priesthood ordination and witness his efforts to be a true and faithful son of God. We love him so much.
