Trek

Jacob and Sarah had the opportunity to attend a joint Aaronic Priesthood Camp and Girls Camp.  It wasn’t “trek” in the way that I know it, but it was a trek-like experience (although Sarah was really bummed there was no dressing up).

This was Sarah’s first youth camp, and I think it was a positive one for her.  She was the youngest by quite a bit, and I am so proud of her for going and being brave and grateful to the older girls for being so kind to her.

The group traveled to Wyoming and spent four days there in that wind-swept, brutally hot, barren landscape.  They were able to push handcarts for two days, along Rocky Ridge and by the sixth crossing.  A standout moment was the women’s pull.  Sarah said, “I kept thinking that there were women who did have to pull those carts up all those hills and plains to make it to Zion.  I admire that those pioneers had to go through harsh conditions…They showed persistence and resilience.  You’d have to have a lot of both those qualities to be able to make it.”

I am grateful my kids were able to have this experience and gain a greater respect for their pioneer ancestors.
