This last month with school has been great! We have checked a lot of boxes off and that has been a wonderful feeling. I have been in FULL ON planning mode for weeks now and you know how I love my planning! I am so excited for this upcoming year!
Language Arts
Jacob worked so hard on completing his book that he wanted to make while we read his Christian Liberty Nature Reader. It turned out so good and he is really proud of himself {and I am pretty proud of him too!}.
We also worked on some poetry, possessive nouns, spelling rules, prepositions, commas in dates, and even did a poetry reader’s theater!
AND….{drum roll, please!} WE ARE DONE! We have been working on Level 1 for what feels like a really long time. But then again, the last year has had a lot of life changes for our family with pregnancy, new baby and a big move.
Jacob has grown so much this last year though. He is really getting into reading and loves the chapter books in the Imagination Station series.
When we performed the end-of-course assessments, he and I were just beaming. He did amazingly well.
Math
Jacob continues to love math! We JUST finished his first unit and he did so well!
This month we covered some scheduling skills, pennies and dimes, taking from ten, adding on to five, one-half fractions, symmetry, taking away five, and equal and not equal equations. BOOM!
Handwriting
CHECK! Jacob finished up his handwriting the beginning of this month. I think he has some pretty great penmanship and am glad he gets this extra practice.
Read Alouds
We finished up our last read aloud book, Abigail Adams: Girl of Colonial Days by Jean Brown Wagoner. I love this series and this was a great book.
Preschool
CHECK! Sarah finished her preschool curriculum for the year. This has been so easy for her but it’s been a good transition year I think to ease into more “formal” schooling. She is begging for more!
This month we finished her final unit on koalas, doing your best and the color grey. She pretty much nailed it!
History
CHECK! We finished up history the beginning of July. We finished our unit about the Cold War Era and learned about the space race, Ronald Reagan, and the fall of communism.
I’ll tell you what, history has always been my favorite subject to learn about. I took three AP history classes in high school even and I learned SO MUCH this last year in this program. I have learned about people and groups and events that I have never even heard of. It has been so enlightening and inspiring and I am loving it.
Summer School
School is such a part of our lifestyle that none of us know quite what to do without it! Although we’ve taken a much needed breather the last couple of weeks, we have been working on a fun “summer school” unit. It is all about TREES!
We are using some new curriculum from The Peaceful Press. This is a short 4-week study and we are adapting it to our needs and wants. It’s been great and just what we need. We just do what we want to that day and it’s been perfect!
We’ve talked about how a tree begins and make a acorn handprint craft, made acorn treats, and made a habitat book.
To continue about trees we made some salt dough and created our own tree.
We are going to wrap up our summer school this next week and get ready for our new year! YEA!
Wrap Up
It’s been another great month of learning in our home. We are busy and happy! I cannot believe that we will be going into our THIRD year of homeschooling this next month! WHEN DID THAT HAPPEN?!!! Time is flying. I am so grateful that we were guided to go down this path. It’s been wonderful for our family.
Love how Jacob is eyeing the treats!
