Life

My 31st Birthday

Welp…it’s official – I am in my THIRTIES! But I’m okay with it. I really am. I am accepting the fact that I have some crinkles on my forehead {doesn’t 31 seem a little young for that though…just wondering…maybe I need to purchase some “age cream” or purchase sunglasses…} and that this newborn stage has me feeling super tired {or maybe it’s the combination of four young children!}. My life is oh so good in so many ways. I have my problems like everyone but I am feeling very blessed and very grateful as I go full swing into my thirties.

Can I make a little confession? I kind of hate that my generation uses the word “adulting”. I feel like we are making ourselves sound really immature. Like yes, I spend my evenings doing bills and got freakishly excited about purchasing picture frames to display our new family pictures but I am an ADULT so do I really need to call it “adulting”? Just sayin’.

ANYWAY, I don’t really know where I got off on that tangent. Blame it on my sleep deprived mind. But instead of deleting it I am just going to leave it here. Think of it as the honest, tired ramblings of thirty-one year old Elise.

My birthday was full of “adulting” {insert wink here} things that were all pretty great. I slept in until 7:30 {can I get a WOOP!}, laid in bed watching The Great British Baking Show on the iPad while Mark and the kids made me breakfast in bed, took a bath {heaven}, actually showered, blow dried my hair and got ready for the day, and then Mark piled us all in our mini van for a surprise “field trip”.

Our field trip was to our local furniture store to look at living room furniture so that we can improve upon our current situation {trust me, you don’t want to see it!}. We didn’t find anything that we loved but it was fun to look none the less.

We came home, had lunch, and I shut the door to our school room and looked at furniture online for pretty much the whole afternoon. Fabric samples are coming in the mail {YES!!!}.

We then loaded everyone back up and headed to Applebees for dinner. Mark and I have been doing a “clean eating” challenge the last several weeks and let’s just say I think we were both pretty miserable after eating our not-so-clean dinner. BUT in all honesty, it was just nice to not have to make dinner so that is always a WIN.

Our night ended with some delicious chocolate cake with strawberry ice cream and cards/presents. Jacob and Sarah love writing love notes to everyone and their multiple cards were so sweet. They are in such a tender age right now.

I am so grateful for the wonderful people in my life. Here’s to another year older and {hopefully} a little bit wiser.
