Mark’s 40th Birthday

Last week we celebrated our favorite man’s birthday. He wanted to spend it in nature and we were all game! Rocky Mountain National Park was calling…and we came!

Perfect lunch spot in the Hidden Valley

We went to Rocky Mountain last autumn for the first time – and we loved it but it was cold and snowy and so we weren’t able to explore very much. We were hoping for more adventuring this day but the weather got to us again. It started raining as soon as we left our lunch spot and rained the whole rest of the time we were there.

Mark wanted to do the Old Fall River Road. This road is one way up the side of the mountain that goes above the tree line. It is only open during the summer months so this was a high priority! The road was FAR above my comfort level but Mark was sure and steady. The road is dirt – so with the rain – it became a slippery muddy mess in our mini van. But we made it!

We drove around the park for a while hoping the rain would clear up but it just wasn’t meant to be. We stopped at Sheep Lakes to see if we could spot any bighorn sheep but not this time. Despite the weather, it really was a great day together as a family.

We stopped and got some deep dish pizza and came home snuggled in for the night.

Mark is so good to each of us. He is selfless. He works hard. He is loyal. He is patient. He is our foundation. He gives us each strength. The world became a much better place when you came into it, Mark. We love you.
