“I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep. The hireling fleeth, because he is an hireling, and careth not for the sheep. I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine. As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep. And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.”
John 10:11-16
Jesus is the Good Shepherd an He will help us always. Jesus knows each of our names. He will lead us always – including through our trials. Jesus was willing to sacrifice Himself for us. We need to be united together in following Jesus.
I like this story because Jesus cares so much for us, just like a shepherd cares for His sheep. I want to be like Jesus Christ each day.
Elder Gerrit W. Gong said, “Our Good Shepherd calls us in His voice and in His name. He seeks, gathers, and comes to His people. Through His living prophet and each of us, He invites all to find peace, purpose, healing, and joy in the fullness of His restored gospel and on the covenant path. By example, He teaches the shepherds of Israel to minister in His love.”
