Denver Zoo

We were so excited to make our way to the zoo this last month! We had planned to go in March but then COVID happened and here we are! The main reason for this particular visit was to celebrate finishing our “Reptiles, Amphibians, and Fish” unit in science for Jacob and Sarah. I will say these particular species are not my usually what I would consider “favorites” but we all really enjoyed the unit {more on that later} and so seeing these animals in real life was the perfect topper!

First up, we had to stop and see the new giraffe! AND then for the first time – the grizzly bear was OUT!!! Jacob was in heaven and it was so fun to watch her.

Then we headed straight to the reptile house – which is home to reptiles, amphibians, fish, white alligators and a teeny tiny new baby sloth who is somewhere up in that tree beyond the netting. We couldn’t see it but we saw some pictures from others!

This animal blows my mind that it is real and not some prehistoric replica!

We took a lunch break with the elephants and a show. They were amazing and we fell even more in love with them.

We also stopped to see the gorillas! The big silverback was eating his lunch and it was fascinating to watch him open tupperware containers and all. Animals are so cool.

We had a lot of really neat experiences at the zoo this time around, so it would be hard to pick a highlight, but this might have been it. Each of our kids have wanted to be a vet at one time or another (or still do!) and so they love visiting the animal hospital. We’ve only watched one other procedure before and this one was so neat!

Under that blanket is a spotted hyena named Ngozi. They were removing some of her teeth and it was so much fun to see and the vets were so good to answer the questions from the kids. Absolutely fascinating!

We had such a wonderful day!
