Jacob’s 14th Birthday

Fourteen. Jacob is fourteen! Time is flying by so quickly and I am just so proud of Jacob and the wonderful person that he is.

Jacob requested orange french toast with bacon and orange juice for his birthday breakfast. We had a lazy morning because Jacob decided that he wanted to go to the pool for his birthday so we had to wait for it to open. Jacob was excited for another birthday at the pool.

Last year it was a mad house at the pool, so Lydie and I decided to stay home this year (plus, it was right during her nap time) and so Mark and the bigs went and had a great time. They were there until closing time!

Then Jacob wanted to have Cafe Mexicali for dinner at home and so we picked it up to go and had a yummy dinner at home. We ended the night with cards, presents, and cake. Jacob wanted a chocolate salted caramel cake – which was delicious – dark chocolate cake with salted caramel buttercream. Yum! Then we watched Hoppers and called it a night.

I wouldn’t say this to Jacob because he’s just at that age, but he has grown up so much this last year. He is a full-fledged teenage boy and I just love all of him.

A hobby that Jacob picked up this year and is obsessed with his crocheting. He crochets every single day. If he has free time, he is crocheting. He makes the cutest little animals and does a really great job with them. I honestly think he could sell them! It’s been fun to see him so excited about a hobby.

Jacob is strong. And I don’t mean strong necessarily in the physical sense, but Jacob has a strength inside of him. He knows how to dig deep and do things that are hard for him. And he does it again and again. He has a quiet strength that is pretty amazing.

He is a great pianist. He really wants to excel and works hard at it. I love listening to him play.

Jacob is passionate. He cares deeply about animals and our planet. He wants to help and be proactive. It’s been really neat to see something that has been an interest of his as long as I can remember, develop into this mature outlook and purpose for him. I can’t wait to see all the good that he wants to do.

He hides it pretty well, but Jacob just seems to have clarity. He doesn’t get lost in things. He knows who he is. He knows who he wants to be. He knows his strengths and weaknesses. He just might be the most quietly confident teenager I’ve ever known. He has an inner confidence that is so unique.

Jacob we love you so much. Keep surprising us and teaching us 🩵
