Hogle Zoo

Since we’ve been making so many trips the last couple of months over to Salt Lake, we decided it was time to add some fun to the mix. PLUS, this was the perfect activity to wrap up our mammals unit we’ve been doing in science {more on that later!}.

But the MOST IMPORTANT reason to go to the zoo was because we learned that Hogle Zoo is losing both of their polar bears. Jacob was so sad when he heard the news. Polar bears are HIS THING. So we were going to say goodbye to the polar bears!

Our drive over was a little dicey to say the least. I really wondered if I was completely crazy for going, but I knew Jacob would be really disappointed if we didn’t go. So we went and I am so glad. We pretty much had the entire zoo to ourselves! The snow stopped and we only saw two other people the entire time we were there!

ALL of the lions were snuggling together right in front of the glass and it was so neat to see them all so close. They truly are HUGE, majestic animals.

Jacob got to say goodbye to his polar bear. It was so nice to just let him take however long he wanted to just watch and soak it all in. She came right over to where he was and he was in heaven.

Could she be any sweeter?

I didn’t realize they had glass enclosures. That was crazy to see the lions right next to you with just a plate of glass between. Pretty fun for the kids. Glad it was a fun day for the kids.

It was so fun to be RIGHT UP against the lions. You know they are big, but it’s hard to really see HOW big until you are that close. So beautiful. It was a great day!
