Do Your Part with All Your Heart

This message from President Dieter F. Uchtdorf was uplifting and encouraging. He spoke about discipleship and the discipline that it requires. But mostly he shared about how gifted each one of us is and the role that we have to play is important and needed.

I have never thought of myself as a big person. That’s not to say that I have no self-worth, but only that I felt my place in this world was in a small sphere. And I am very okay with that. I never had grand plans or bucket lists of things I wanted to do or become. I have always sought a simple life with simple pleasures and I have felt a great deal of joy in that.

But it’s amazing how quickly the adversary can make us feel small and discount the gifts that we have. I have felt quite small lately. In my home, I feel valued and of high worth (and honestly, that is usually enough for me). But it has been harder to leave lately. I have felt a little lost outside of my home. Not feeling like I have much to give elsewhere.

And this is why the Lord asks us to REMEMBER so much. Because then the Lord brings back to my remembrance the good that I have done. Good that is outside of my home. He reminds me of the gifts that I have. They aren’t showy, but they are there. And He also quietly reminds me that I really don’t want the showy gifts anyway šŸ˜‰. We all have a part to give. And each of those parts are needed. And if I don’t continuously work on those gifts, they will be lost. I can’t hide them away because I am too scared to use them.

I am grateful for a Savior who can give strength to us. Strength to do our parts. Encouragement to become more like Him. He doesn’t expect me to become perfect in a day. But He does expect me to try. To start with what I have and build on that.

Invitation

Trust the Savior and engage, patiently and diligently, in doing your part with all your heart – that your joy may be full and that, one day, you will receive all the Father has.

Prompting

I hope to be more patient with myself, but also to push myself. Let my Savior refine me and add to who I already am. I want to trust in my Savior more and sincerely engage in doing my part with all my heart.

My Favorite Takeaways

“Getting good at anything…takes consistent self-discipline and practice.

Discipleship takes self-discipline.

Faith in Jesus Christ is a gift, but receiving it is a conscious choice that requires a commitment of all our “might, mind and strength.” It is a practice of every day. Every hour. It takes constant learning and determined commitment. Our faith, which is our loyalty to the Savior, becomes stronger as it is tested against the opposition we face here in mortality. It endures because we keep nourishing it, we keep actively applying it, and we never give up.

God gives us gifts – of knowledge, of ability, of opportunity – and He wants us to use and amplify them so they can bless us and bless His other children…Our gifts magnify and multiply only when we put them to use.

You are a blessed being of light, the spirit child of an infinite God! And you bear within you a potential beyond your own capacity to imagine.

Your origin story is divine, and so is your destiny. You left heaven to come here, but heaven has never left you!

You are anything but ordinary.

You are gifted!

Let us each do our little part.

My beloved brothers and sisters, dear friends, I pray that the Spirit will help you recognize the gifts and talents God has given you. Then, let us…increase and magnify them.

God knows who we truly are, who we are designed to become, and so His expectations for us are high.

Growth happens gradually and patiently – but also consistently and unrelentingly.

Our part is to follow the Christ. It is our part to turn away from sin, tunr toward the Savior, and walk in His way, one step at a time. As we do this, diligently and faithfully, we eventually cast off the shackles of imperfections and faults and slowly become refined, until that perfect day when we will be perfected in Christ.

The blessings are within reach. The promises are in place. The door is wide open. It is our choice to enter and begin.

Our Father asks that we approach this challenge of faith and discipleship not as casual tourists but as wholehearted believers who leave behind and abandon Babylon and set their hearts, minds, and steps toward Zion.

We know that our efforts alone cannot make us celestial. But they can make us loyal and commited to Jesus the Christ, and He can make us celestial.

If we place our hope and faith in Him, our victory is assured. He promises us access to His strength, His power, His abundant grace. Step by step, little by little, we will grow ever closer to that great and perfect day when we will live with Him and our loved ones in eternal glory.

To get there, we must do our part today and every day.

I urge and bless every member of the Church, and all who desire to be part of it, to trust the Savior and engage, patiently and diligently, in doing your part with all our heart – that your joy may be full and that, one day, you will receive all the Father has.”

You shared wonderful insights. I hope that you always see in yourself the good and consecrated wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend that you are. Heavenly Father measures us by our efforts.
