Last month we were able to get together as a family for our annual Clegg Family Reunion! We went to our favorite place in Island Park. This place fuels my soul and it was wonderful to spend that time together.
The kiddos have been anxiously awaiting the time at “the cabin” and loved almost every moment (we will get to that later). I am mostly just going to let the pictures do the talking! We spent loads of time in the water, rented a boat for a day (“Mermaid Cove” was a hit – guess who named it that ;)), played games, ate yummy food, played with the pups, went on walks, rode Megan and Linda’s electric bike around…basically we PLAYED!
Johnny Sack’s Cabin
I don’t know how many times I have been to Johnny Sack’s cabin but I love it every time. I think the cabin itself is just charming. I love the water wheel. I love thinking about what life must have been like to be the only person living in this unsettled area. And I loved that we spied this sweet little moose relaxing near the cabin. And can we just take a moment to appreciate the GREENERY! It’s the best.
The Unwelcome “Adventure”
On our last night of the reunion we had what we are calling an unwelcome “adventure”. Mark and Ben had gone off on the kayak and Melina went out with Jacob and Sarah on the canoe. Neither group realized that a storm was rolling in. So while I stood on the dock worrying like crazy, this storm rolled in FAST. It was a horrible feeling.
I knew both groups were in the water trying to get back, but they both went where we couldn’t see them. Oh goodness, it was really hard. There was a lot of pacing. A lot of quiet tears. A lot of mixed emotions.
I had lived by Bear Lake long enough to hear WAY too many tragic stories that began with, “the storm came in so fast…”.
My Dad went off in the car to try and get closer to the shore where we thought they had ended up. He found Mark and Ben who had been rescued by a boat on the water. Jacob, Sarah, and Melina were beached on the other side of the lake. These wonderful kind Samaritans who had taken Mark and Ben in their boat, offered to drive their side by sides to the other side of the lake to get the rest of our family.
It was a difficult night. Once everyone made it back, they were wet and scared. Lots of snuggles and tears. But everyone is okay (still talked about almost daily from the kids) and hopefully some lessons were learned.
Family Photos
Despite our final night adventure, it was a wonderful week. We are so grateful for our family.
Oh my what a scare! So glad everyone was safe. An adventure that will be retold and dare we say embelished for a long time. Your heart didn’t need that stress.
Looks like a really fun time. Loved, loved the photos. Thanks for sharing.
It was definitely not a night I would want to relive – but glad it all ended well – and grateful for kind people that went out of their way to help!
