Benjamin makes us laugh from sun up to sun down. The kid is hilarious and so good natured and we just love him to bits.
Our little guy is really not-so-little anymore. I can definitely see him evolving to play with more of the “big kid” toys and activities. His desired to do them is definitely there!
Benjamin is so good to PLAY. He is probably the best at entertaining himself and is getting quite the imagination. I love to listen around a corner when he thinks he is alone playing with his cars and the stories he comes up with. Kids imaginations truly are the best.
He is also really aware of his siblings. It’s not to say that he doesn’t struggle with sharing at times but he is always really aware of what they are doing, if they are included in things, and so on. I hope he always has that awareness to look out for those around him.
Benji’s Favorite Things as he turns THREE:
- Books: The Little Snowplow by Lora Koehler, Mighty, Mighty Construction Site by Sherri Duskey Rinker, Star Wars Little Golden Books
- Movie: The Greatest Showman and Mary Poppins
- Activities: Anything with cars or trucks or wheels in general, using Dad as his personal jungle gym, and “working” outside
- Snack: ANYTHING {he is a bottomless pit}
- Game: Hungry Hungry Hippo
- Songs: I Am a Child of God and songs from The Greatest Showman
To celebrate Benjamin’s special day it was all about “CONSTRUCTION” {or “DESTRUCTION” as Jacob put it!}.
Benji loves anything and EVERYTHING with wheels and this was the party he requested. Dirt and tractors are pretty much Benjamin’s DREAM COMBO.
We started off with some Chunky Monkey pancakes, sausage, and orange juice to get all of us moving!
We then finished the final preparations for his party and he was thrilled with every bit. As soon as we were done with his breakfast he sat down at the table and said he was “ready to PARTY!”
Grandpa and Grandma, Gramps and Grammy, and Aunt Melina all came up to celebrate his special day with him. He was so thrilled! That really is the most exciting part for my kids on their birthdays – having family over to celebrate.
Since it was a construction birthday I thought we better construct something. So the kids each built their own car and then painted and decorated it. It was pretty much the best.
When I asked Benjamin what he wanted for his party lunch he simply responded with “MEAT!“. This kid. So we had meat sandwiches, chips, veggies, oranges, and “spicy drink” (aka Sprite).
Afterwards we opened presents. Benjamin was showered with so many love gifts and had us all rolling as he did his drive-by thank yous. Imagine: some celebrity singer as they run by their fans lined up along the stage giving fives and quickly saying “thank you”….are you imagining…THAT was Benjamin.
We ended his party with his chocolate construction site cake – YUM!
We were so grateful for all of the family that made the effort to come up and celebrate his special day.
The rest of the afternoon we relaxed and played with toys together. When dinner approached Benjamin said he wanted to go out to eat at the “breakfast place” – so to IHOP we went…only so Benjamin could order a hamburger! HA!
And the cherry on top of his day was that {since he turned three} it is Berning Family Tradition that he can now participate in our weekly Friday night movies! He was so excited to pick the movie and stay up the ENTIRE time. He felt like such a big boy.
We love our big-little guy so much.
Happy Birthday, Benji.
