2022 – 2023 Curriculum: Kindergarten

As with the previous kiddos’ post – we are well into our school year. But here was our plan moving into Benjamin’s kindergarten year.

Overall Thoughts

Ben has been a tricky kiddo for me to understand how he learns best. Ben is definitely our most active out of our kids. He loves to use his body – so I try and incorporate as much kinesthetic learning as I can. But Ben is not where I was hoping he would be when we entered the new school year. He has not caught the “learning bug” quite yet and just doesn’t have very much interest in learning.

BUT. He will get there. I have no doubt about that.

Curriculum

  • Come, Follow Me: This is a family subject. The first half of this year we studied the Old Testament and have now transitioned to the New Testament.
  • Language Arts: This, especially as we were starting the year, was a hard one for me. My plan was to move through The Good and the Beautiful Kindergarten Level course.
  • Explode the Code: I got the first three books in the series (Get Ready for the Code, Book A, B, and C) to assist Ben in learning his letters. This is a supplementary curriculum we are using on top of language arts.
  • Math: The Good and the Beautiful Math K course – Ben’s first year doing an “official” math curriculum
  • Science: The Good and the Beautiful changed how they are doing science this year. That kind of made me rethink how we do science. They came out with a new science curriculum geared towards the younger grades and so that is what Ben is using with Lydie. He is using The Good and the Beautiful Little Hearts and Hands: Fields and Flowers guide.
  • Handwriting: The Good and the Beautiful Handwriting Workbook Level K
  • Read Aloud: Click HERE for Ben’s read aloud list for the year.
  • Letter Subscriptions: Last year our family started to get some letter subscriptions. The kiddos all love them and we decided to continue with three of the four letters this year. We will be doing Letters from Afar, Writings from the Wild, and American Heritage Adventure.
  • Let’s Make Art: Ben enjoys doing watercoloring tutorials through Let’s Make Art. He doesn’t get the subscription box like Jacob does, but it is something he seems to really enjoy.
  • Baseball: Ben has decided that he would like to try baseball in the spring, so that is his extra activity.

Conclusion

Ben is such a sweetheart. He can wrap me securely around his finger in a moment! I am excited to go on this journey with him and watch as he discovers the love of learning for himself.
