Yard: Part 2

As my Dad likes to say that we have put a lot of “sweat equity” into our yard this spring and summer! But I have to give most of the credit to Mark. He has put in countless hours working out in the yard and it is amazing to see the progress we have made.

So here is our summer projects in pictures!

Front Yard

I just HAVE to add this picture again. This is what our front yard looked like this time last year. It was an embarrassing jungle. Happily I can say, we have improved from this.
We leveled off the front yard as best we could. Unfortunately, our lot is sloped {somewhat strangely I might add} and so we did it the best we knew how.
Everything prepped and ready to go!
Laying down the ground cover before we added the rock. In case you are wondering, yes, this is exceptionally hot to kneel on in the heat! WHEW!
Making our “islands” with the rock
This section took a LONG time to get done. Our local home improvement store kept running out of our rock for the retaining wall and so we had to keep checking in and just getting what we could. AND we wanted to wait until our fence got put in before we laid down the rock.
The last thing for the front yard is to fill up the area in the retaining wall and add some FLOWERS!

Back Yard

The backyard hasn’t gotten as much attention this summer. Once we laid down the grass at the end of May we just let it do it’s thing (it was SO HARD waiting the couple of weeks to let it take root before we went on it). It came in really nice and we are so happy about that. We DID add in a fence around the backyard though. I have to admit I have a little mixed feelings about it. I sometimes miss the openness that we had before but it is also nice to keep out little (and not so little) creatures. Plus, it’s nice to not feel like everyone is looking in on us when they are out on the trails.

We have worked hard and are excited to enjoy the fruits of our labors! We’ve still got a few things we want to get done before winter but if there is one thing we have learned it is that homes are an endless work in progress 😋
