I really went back and forth this year about how I wanted to do read alouds. Now that Sarah is “officially” joining school this year, I wasn’t sure how to go about it. I have really loved this one-on-one time with Jacob and I wanted to experience it with Sarah, too. BUT, I also don’t want to stop doing it with Jacob either!
So, I am going into the year planning on doing two separate read alouds – one with Jacob and one with Sarah. This may prove to be too much but I am hoping it will work out. I’ve got a plan {of course!}. π
This is our third grade lineup for Jacob this year – can NOT wait!
- The Trumpet of the Swan by E. B. White
- The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame
- The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett
- At the Back of the North Wind by George MacDonald
- The Railway Children by E. Nesbit
- The Magician’s Nephew by C. S. Lewis
- The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by C. S. Lewis
- The Horse and His Boy by C. S. Lewis
- Prince Caspian by C. S. Lewis
- Voyage of the Dawn Treader by C. S. Lewis
- The Silver Chair by C. S. Lewis
- The Last Battle by C. S. Lewis
- Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J. K. Rowling
Keep tabs on us in our quarterly schoolhouse updates to see how we like the books – and if I can handle two read alouds!
This makes me want to expand my reading. I may just read these same books.
I didn’t know C.S. Lewis did children’s books.
That would be SO fun to read them at the same time – I am sure Jacob would love to talk to you about them π I would HIGHLY recommend The Chronicles of Narnia series by C.S. Lewis. I have found many spiritual connections when I have read them – especially the older I get. I think you would really enjoy them.
