General Conference is easily one of my favorite weekends of the year. I love it and always leave feeling lifted and inspired to be better. This conference there were many wonderful lessons and counsel. But what stood out to me the most throughout the talks were to be aware of deceptions and distractions. We had a great conversation as a family afterwards about what those words mean and how we can protect ourselves from the deceptions of the world, as well as, the distractions.
Sometimes there are certain talks that resonate with me more than others {as I am sure happens to everyone} but I do feel like it is especially important for me to know and remember what our Prophet teaches. This conference, it was all about “the second great commandment”.
“When we love God with all our hearts, He turns our hearts to the well-being of others in a beautiful, virtuous cycle…
As sons and daughters of God, we are all brothers and sisters. We heed an Old Testament admonition: ‘Thou shalt open thine hand wide unto thy brother, to thy poor, and to thy needy’…
Our greatest joy comes as we help our brothers and sisters, no matter where we live in this wonderful world.
Giving help to others – making a conscientious effort to care about others as much as or more than we care about ourselves – is our joy. Especially, I might add, when it is not convenient and when it takes us out of our comfort zone. Living that second great commandment is the key to becoming a true disciple of Jesus Christ.”
