Sarah’s Room // Weeks 2 – 4

We are definitely not anything close to full time DIYers! So when I say “week” I mean a couple days, constantly interrupted, during Mark’s week off of work. We aren’t going to be accomplishing anything in record time! So our DIY process is going to be L O N G but we are really enjoying it! Mark is definitely doing the bulk of the work and I will come in here and there when I can. He’s the muscle and I get to be the design – and it is working wonderfully!

WEEK 2

WEEK 2 was all about the board and batten. Actually, so far everything has been all about the board and batten! Mark put the horizontal and vertical boards up. Then he filled in all the holes with wood filler and sanded them down. Not as much progress this week because of General Conference and some other things, but progress is progress.

WEEK 3

WEEK 3 continued to NOT see very much progress. Mark was only able to work on things on and off two days Week 3. He sanded the edges where the boards meet the molding. He also was able to caulk about half of the room. We were hoping to get the board and batten all finished up – but maybe next week.

WEEK 4

Did it take four weeks to get a board and batten project done – YES! But are we loving it and feel like it was totally worth it – also YES! We learned a lot on this first phase of our projects in Sarah’s room. Honestly, the hardest part wasn’t the board and batten itself, but the skim coat for the wall.

This week I wanted to go and touch up some areas of the skim coat. It was really hard to get into the tight spaces (around moldings, light switches, etc.), but after a lot of trial and error in some places, we figured it out!

Mark finished caulking the rest of the boards and then he painted the white and did some finish work on the pink. And we LOVE how it turned out! And Sarah loves how it turned out! And that makes all of the hard work worth it. Sarah has been so patient living amongst the choas the last several weeks. We have a lot more we have planned and we are excited – and luckily it shouldn’t be quite as disruptive to her room as this was!

Next step, building a bed frame and getting this little lady off the floor! YAY!

But first – we are going to have to pause things a little because we want to do some spring yard work. To be continued!
