Benjamin completed The Good and the Beautiful’s Kindergarten Prep course at the end of March. He was so very happy to do this course. He had done the Preschool course twice and so moving forward was really good for him!
Previous Experience
Both Jacob and Sarah did the previous version from The Good and the Beautiful. It was called the “Level K Primer” then. The Good and the Beautiful have updated it and now call it “Kindergarten Prep”. This was a great bridge course for Jacob and Sarah in-between Preschool and Kindergarten and I would say it’s purpose remains the same. It teaches the same concepts as the old and many of the activities felt familiar. I would say more than anything it just got a facelift.

Course Overview
This course is short. It would not take you an entire year to do. For our family, we have always done this course after the Preschool course within the same year. There are only 30 lessons and it took Ben two months to finish. The course covers:
- Mastering Recognition of Uppercase and Lowercase Letters
- Mastering Letter Sounds (I would say your child should have these pretty solid before beginning the course as it steps into other concepts very quickly)
- Reading Two-Letter Words
- Reading Three-Letter CVC (consonant vowel consonant) Words
- Identifying Beginning, Ending, and Middle Sounds
- Recognizing Vowels
- Colors
- Introduction to Word Families
- Numbers: 1 to 15
- Rhyming
- Correct Pencil Grip
- Beginning Handwriting Skills
- Fine Motor Skills
Course Book
There is no set included in this course. There is a course book that is beautiful and colorful where the lessons are found. However, there are also free songs and videos that you can access on The Good and the Beautiful app.
Supplies and Prep
The supplies needed for this course are very minimal. Most of the items needed were every day items (such as crayons, glue, pencil, scissors, whiteboard and dry erase markers, etc.). There were a few additional supplies asked for but they were, again, things I had already on hand: buttons, feather, a key, brad fastener, and paint. Many of these supplies could also be switched for other things if you don’t have them – it was very adaptable!
Target Audience
This course is designed for children ages 3-5. But this is when I will definitely add that you know your child and where they are at – and this may deviate from these ages. Jacob and Sarah did this course (the old version) when they were 5 and Benjamin was 6. I think the most important thing is to begin the course only after your child is confident with their letters and sounds.

Final Thoughts
This course is really beneficial in bridging that gap between preschool and kindergarten. As I said before, I would make sure that your child is solid in their letters and sounds first. This course should build confidence as they move forward. Now onto kindergarten!
Other Language Arts Courses from The Good and the Beautiful
We have used every language arts course from Preschool to Level 5 (some multiple times). I haven’t always reviewed each of them, but am more than happy to answer any questions you may have.
Congratulations to Benjamin. Well done.
Thank you!
