“Seek, and ye shall find”
Matthew 7:7
2019 our family spent immersed in the New Testament and it was incredible. There were countless days when I was studying and felt like I was reading the scriptures for the first time. Things were impressed upon my mind and I felt like I came to know my Savior in a way I never quite had before.
My Purpose
At the beginning of the year, the very first time I sat to study the New Testament, I asked myself what I was “seeking” in the New Testament. My answer was simple – I wanted to grow closer to my Savior and understand His role in the Plan of Salvation and in my life personally.
I was reminded of this purpose every time I sat down to study and it made a huge impact.
Personal Study
The greatest resource, except the scriptures themselves, was the Come, Follow Me manual. I absolutely loved this and wholeheartedly believe it was inspired in every way.
I loved not only reading scripture every week but then asking and journaling questions and answers. The New Testament came alive to me. I felt like I understood stories, parables, and individuals in completely new ways.
Another resource that was very helpful was the New Testament Study & Activity Guide by The Red Headed Hostess. I used this for my own personal study and it was a great companion to the Come, Follow Me manual and scriptures. Basically, it just gave me a place to journal and that was helpful.
Family Study
This has been an amazing thing for our family. In 2018, I felt a pull to do more with my children to teach them the gospel and I tried to piece things together on my own, and then this beautiful curriculum was announced and it was an answer to prayer.
I have loved being able to sit together as a family, DAILY, and be immersed together in the scriptures. It was the perfect beginning to our day and one that I am so grateful for.
One of the best things I did for our family was to subscribe to The Red Headed Hostess Weekly Scripture Kits. Every week, I was able to download tons of materials for the week and it was so wonderful.
There are amazing study pages that dive into the scriptures but we definitely loved their “Bedtime Stories”.
We used these at the beginning of our day and then would sometimes add an activity {that are also included in the kits}. The Bedtime Stories were basically condensed stories found in the scriptures with some great questions for discussion for young children. These really held my kiddos’ attention and was a great way to cover material in a kid-friendly way.
My kiddos’ favorite activity was probably the coloring pages. My kids love to color! So after we did the “Bedtime Story” I would give Jacob and Sarah a coloring page that they could do whenever they wanted during the day.
I collected these all year long. I compiled a book for Jacob and Sarah of all of their coloring from the year. They were both so excited and now it is a great journal for them of all of the stories and lessons we learned throughout the year. Such a treasure!
My Testimony
Being in the New Testament this year has been incredible. I am so grateful. And I testify that when you “seek” in the scriptures, you will find. I sought for a more personal testimony and relationship with my Savior, and I found that. I hope you do, too.
I know Jesus Christ lives. That He loves me and you, and every person that has ever lived or will ever live. He wants to see us succeed. He wants us to feel happiness. Forever happiness. He provided a way back for each of us. He did it and it’s now our choice whether or not we will take His hand back to our Father in Heaven. Choose Him.
I have so much I can do better in my life. But I know that my Savior doesn’t expect me to be perfect. All He wants is to see me try. Try and then try again.
As we begin a new year, my mind is littered with loads of goals I would like to accomplish. Things that will make me a better person. And I know that if I invite my Savior to be apart of my daily efforts, He will do more with me than I ever could.
Thank you for sharing.
You inspire me. I’m so grateful for the fabulous woman and mama you are.
Thank you…I have a pretty wonderful example in my mother 😉
