Museum of the Rockies

After we left the Grant-Kohrs Ranch we headed east towards Bozeman. This was an extra day/stop that we added last minute because of Mark. And I am SO GLAD that we did because it was a highlight for ALL of the kids!

This museum is incredible! There are lots of different areas and it was so fun to experience. The main attraction for our crew was the…

DINOSAURS!

The Museum of the Rockies has one of the largest and most famous collections of dinosaur fossils in the world – who knew?! There are so many fossils! And another awesome thing about it is that they have a lot of those really well-known dinosaurs (think tyrannosaurus rex and triceratops) so the kids immediately knew what they were looking at. They were in heaven.

They were in the process of changing exhibits when we were there but we did get to walk through two of their permanent exhibits.

One of their permanent exhibits is all about Yellowstone Country. It was fun to look at different tourism pieces over the years for Yellowstone and also learn about the people that lived in the Yellowstone area before it became a national park.

Another one of their permanent exhibits displays things from Montana’s history. They had everything from early exploration artifacts to a World War II plane.

Another amazing thing about this place is that it is also a planetarium. They have multiple shows playing throughout the day and the shows are included with your admission – YAY!

They have a large 40-foot dome where you get to watch some of their amazing shows. We watched Sunstruck which was fascinating. We got to learn about how our sun began, how it supports life, and what will one day happen to it. It was pretty science-y at parts but the images were incredible and that kept our little crew plenty entertained. Even Lydie let me stay and watch the whole thing – WOOT!

If you are in the area, it is definitely worth a stop!

Before we left town, we stopped and got ice cream because…priorities. Benjamin was in heaven with his two favorite things – ice cream and a front row seat to CONSTRUCTION!

We then made the short drive to Billings. We actually got into town a little early and just drove around before finally settling into the home we were renting for a couple nights. This house had a yard to play in and the kids were in love.

Looking at these pictures brings me so much joy. At the root of our trips is this – connection. Of course we love exploring new places but these trips are also meant to strengthen our relationships and just have uninterrupted connection. It was so fun just running around together outside and making up games and watching bugs and just being together.

Your kids have the wealth of knowledge they have because you are the wonder-women of teachers!

    That museum was incredible.

It has been a real treat for me to see your adventures in Montana, because Joe and I absolutely loved exploring that interesting state.
