Memorial Day

I love Memorial Day! We woke up to some holiday decorating from Ben and had a lovely breakfast and then we went over to one of our local cemeteries. We’ve visited this particular cemetery every year since we’ve lived in northern Colorado so I am not sure if this was a first year for this or maybe our timing has always been off – but they held a Memorial Day service at the cemetery and it was so lovely. They displayed the flag and the various flags of the military, we said the pledge of alligiance, sang the national anthem, and had a prayer. We didn’t stay for the whole program because Lydia still wasn’t feeling very well that day and so Mark and her were hanging out in the van and we didn’t want them to be waiting too long, but it was such a sweet service and I am grateful that the kids were able to experience it.

The kids each delivered their various flowers around the cemetery and I will always love that. Ben always runs out and then he’ll place dandelions or little rocks on their headstones and I think they probably love those ones best.

We came home and spent the day together with some quality family time. It was raining most of the day (which we all loved) and just made for a cozy day.

We are very grateful for those that have fought and worked so hard to give us the beautiful life that we have.
