The morning after Lydie’s hospital stay, we hit the road to Montana! I will admit, I don’t think I was mentally prepared for our nine hour drive! 😬
Travel Day
It kind of felt like one thing after another. As we were driving, we noticed something was scraping on the bottom of the car and realized something on the car had dropped so we had to push that back in and hope it would stay (it didn’t, but we think we mostly made it in one piece ;)). Then the random McDonald’s in Wyoming messed up our lunch order (I usually make our lunches on road trips but that was not happening this time around). And then Mark and I got some raging headaches to go along with it all. We were really happy campers once we pulled into Bozeman – and I mean that sincerely, we were so happy to get out of the car!
Bozeman is so beautiful. The kids were in love. We went on a family trip to Montana back in 2020, but the kids don’t remember too much about it and I think they are now trying to figure out a way to move there.
We drove straight to our niece’s venue and it was so beautiful. I am kicking myself that I didn’t get any pictures because it was gorgeous. We got there right when my sister-in-law and her family pulled in and so it was perfect timing. We spent the evening catching up with family, eating some munchy food, and meeting the groom-to-be.
By the time we were heading to the hotel, Mark and I were ready to crash hard. I don’t think we’ve ever moved so fast to get the kids settled into bed. I ended up spending a good portion of the night throwing up in the bathroom in what was a very long night.
Wedding Day
Bless Mark because even though he still wasn’t feeling great himself, he got up and brought me breakfast in bed the next morning and then ran down to the grocery store to get both of us some medicine.
It was a wonderfully cool day in Montana. We met up with family for lunch and then we made our way to the Museum of the Rockies. We visited this museum back in 2020 and it is so much fun. Their dinosaur collection is pretty incredible! The kids loved exploring!

We then hurried back to the hotel and changed and made our way to the wedding. It ended up being such a beautiful evening for the wedding. The ceremony was sweet and funny and we are so happy for Kaylee and Nathan and the life that they are starting together.

The kids spent the evening running around with cousins and puppies, drinking large quantities of soda from the soda station, playing cornhole, and taking pictures in the photo booth.

Unfortunately, Lydie started to have seizures during the ceremony and continued throughout the evening and so her and I didn’t stay too long. After the dinner, Jacob, Lydie and I went back to the hotel.
Drive Home
The drive home the next day was long and rainy. Lydie had seizures throughout the day so I sat in the back with her and we were happy to be back home.
It was such a whirlwind trip and I realize I am probably making it sound pretty negative – it really wasn’t! It definitely had its tricky parts but I really am so grateful that we went. I am happy that we could be there for Kaylee and her family but I am also selfishly grateful for the really amazing conversations I was able to have with sister-in-laws and nieces. It was something I didn’t realize I needed – but I definitely needed. We love our family and are grateful we got to have a little reunion together to mark this special time!
