Our every day January moments ❄️

Teacher & First Counselor

We kicked the year off with some great spiritual experiences. Jacob was ordained a Teacher in the Aaronic Priesthood and was also set apart as the First Counselor in his Teachers Quorum. Read all about it HERE.

Temple Baptisms

Sarah was able to go into the temple for the first time and do baptisms and had such a sweet experience. Read all about it HERE.

The Secret World of Elephants

We loved the Secret World of Elephants exhibit at the Denver Nature and Science Museum. Read all about it HERE.

Sleepovers

The last several months, Benjamin has been asking to have sleepovers with Lydie. It is so sweet. We told him he is limited to only once a week. They are the best of buddies.

Family Time at the Temple

I love how much Jacob and Sarah love being at the temple. They want to go all the time! I love that they can go together.

England Plans

Mark and I have exciting news! I will probably go into more detail later, but we decided that we are going to England this spring to celebrate our 15th anniversary! We are so excited. Like really, really excited. It was a little all consuming for a week or two because we had to plan our trip to know how much time Mark needed to request from work, apply for passports, and start booking things. But we are THRILLED!

Where is the Snow?!

Has this been the weirdest winter of all time?! Yes, yes it has. We are in the 50s and 60s most days and we, in the Berning household, are NOT okay with it. But we did get one snowstorm this month!

Simple Routines

Lydie is such a patient little girl. For Christmas, Mark and I got her this bed/chair. It can be raised up to use as a chair, but can also go flat on the floor. We are hoping it can be helpful when she is sick and can prop her up more. But it has also been a great addition for just lounging (and for those sleepovers!). We’ve gotten into a little routine that in the late morning, she watches a show, while I work on school with the other kids.

Fillmore Binder

I crossed a BIG check off from my family history to do list this month! My great-uncle (and mom) compiled two of these very large binders filled with pictures and personal histories from the Fillmore side of my family. I am amazed at how they were able to get people to participate. And it is such a treasure. It has so much personal depth on each member of the family that I know I will never have anywhere else.

It was a big undertaking making it digital. I typed up every single biography and scanned all the pictures. It was tedious but I learned so much. And it is FINISHED! The Fillmore book is coming along!

Fondue Night

Winter Bucket List ✔️

One of our winter bucket list items was to have a fondue night. The kids had no idea what fondue was and so that made it extra fun – it was full of surprises! And now, they want to do fondue all the time!

Heartland + Coloring

Last autumn, Sarah and I started something – just the two of us – and it has been such a simple and sweet time for us. Sarah loves horses and so we started watching the show Heartland together. But, something that makes it extra sweet, is we are doing it one episode a week. I was thinking about it the other day, how we are only 10 or 11 episodes into it, and normally with streaming these days you just watch things so quickly. And there have been days when we could watch more, but there has been something sweet and maybe even nostalgic in a way, to just watching one episode. We look forward to it more. We usually color while we watch and it has just become a sweet time to reconnect, just her and I.

Pajama Day

Winter Bucket List ✔️

Another item on our winter bucket list was a family pajama day! Read all about it HERE.
