Life

Journal: August 26, 2023

Happy Saturday! This summer has been absolutely bonkers! We have been running with so many wonderful happenings but I am tired!

Bugs

Earlier this month we went down to the Nature and Science Museum to check out their BUG exhibit. We loved it – maybe our favorite ever! CLICK HERE for the full post.

Peaches

I am growing our food storage one little fruit at a time! I canned peaches for the first time (by myself!) and we are so excited to eat these delicious peaches this winter. Canning has become very satisfying for me and I am loving it!

County Fair

We had such a fun afternoon at the County Fair! CLICK HERE for the full post.

New Unit in Language Arts

School continues forward! We are trying to finish up before we start up our “new” year next month. Ben’s path with language arts has been different than planned but he is making a lot of great progress. He started his second unit a couple weeks ago.

NEW MATH!!!

Another exciting new happening for Ben is that he is starting a new math program. It is actually the kindergarten math program Jacob and Sarah used – and he is loving it! It has been a very positive change and we are both excited.

Ancient History

Jacob and Sarah also started a new unit in history – ANCIENT HISTORY! It covers part of the Old Testament and Ancient Egypt. Jacob and I have done this unit before but it is a new one for Sarah. Can’t wait!

Block Giraffes

Ben went through a giraffe phase for a couple of days. He made many versions of a giraffe out of blocks.

Watercoloring

Sarah did a watercoloring project for language arts. She loves when she gets to do art with school.

Sweet Peas

Speaking of art, Sarah and I got some watercoloring workbooks to do together. It is a “botanical” workbook and the first project we did was of sweet peas. It was a technique I have never done before but, surprisingly, really loved. It was the line and wash technique and it was so fun!

<I don’t know how I didn’t take a final picture of our project but I will try and snag one next time we get it out>

Sleep Study

Lydia had her second sleep study. It was a doozy. CLICK HERE for the full post.

Glasses

Sarah got glasses for the first time! She is darling and adjusting so well. CLICK HERE for the full post.

Backpacking

Then Jacob, Sarah, and I went on a fun backpacking adventure with my Dad and Melina. CLICK HERE for the full post.

Birdseed Ornaments

Ben learned about seeds in science and so we made birdseed ornaments. They were simple but oh so much fun!

Lola

Lola has been my car for a LONG time. I got her in college and she has been with me ever since. Mark’s car got totaled the month we got engaged, which meant that Lola was our only car the first five years of our marriage. She has taken us on so many adventures. She has been dependable and very low maintenance. We brought home Jacob and Sarah from the hospital in that car. It has seen us through so many highs and lows. At over 260,000 miles though, we decided we probably needed something a little more reliable. We said goodbye to her this week and I have to admit, I was sad to see her go.

Glowing Nature

Lydie and I did her last project in her “Glowing Nature” Koala Crate. I have to admit, I almost didn’t do this project. I thought about not doing it because I didn’t think Lydie would be able to do anything with it. But I put it together with her and put it on the window. You pull the strings and it makes the jellyfish move back and forth. I put the string in Lydie’s hand and she was able to hold it and pull! It was such an exciting moment! I love how Lydie teaches and surprises even me still. This girl should not be underestimated. It was such a sweet moment seeing her play.

Japan

Sarah had to pick a country and do a presentation on it for language arts. She picked Japan! She did such a great job and now wants to do a presentation on everything. I may be buying a lot of poster board in the near future.

Mark’s 41st Birthday

And TODAY is Mark’s birthday! Sadly, he is right in the middle of a night schedule and so spent his day sleeping. We were going to go out and celebrate but Mark decided to wait for a different night when he didn’t have the stress of worrying about work. BUT we did get some dinner to go, had cake, and opened cards and presents. We sure love our man. More on his birthday to come!
