Independence Day

I mentioned last year that the Fourth of July was really hard for me. For whatever reason, this is the one holiday that is really difficult for me to be away from family. It probably doesn’t help that Mark has had to work both years, so it is just me and the kids trying to make traditions that I really don’t know how to do for some reason.

We woke up and I made a yummy breakfast. Mark came home from work and went to bed and the kids and I had a slow morning. We were going to go to the splash pad but Lydia was not feeling well. She was having some intense GI issues and I just felt like we needed to stay close to home. The other kiddos are so amazing. They love their sister so much and were so helpful in switching plans around.

We set up our little pool (which is so tiny for my not-so-tiny kids now) but they had a blast! They got to play for about an hour before nature took a turn and a big storm rolled in. We came inside and everyone got showered and we set up a big snuggle party in our family room. We ended up having our family picnic inside while the thunderstorm raged outside. It was cozy and it ended up being a really great evening – even if it wasn’t traditional.

Happy Birthday, America!
