High Adventure Camp

A couple weeks ago Jacob was able to attend his first High Adventure Camp!

In the weeks leading up to camp, Jacob was pretty nervous and a little unsure about whether or not he wanted to go. I share that because I am always so proud of him and him for doing things that stretch him out of his comfort zone.

Kuddos have to be made to our Bishopric who had to scramble at the very last minute and completely change their plans. They had initially planned to go to Flaming Gorge and spend the bulk of their camp on the water (this is why Jacob was nervous). But after learning about some changes in the handbook and talking with Church Headquarters, they had to completely change their trip just days before it happened.

It was not probably as high adventure as they would have liked, but it actually worked really great for our family. They shortened the trip by a day, and moved the location to only a little over an hour from us, which allowed Mark to go for half of the time.

There were only six boys that ended up coming (and Jacob was the only deacon) but Jacob had such a great time. These boys will forever have a tender place in my heart. They did a lot of hiking, ate hot dogs wrapped in bacon, had a devotional, and carved soap (Jacob’s favorite part!). Hopefully the first of many wonderful trips for him!

I really like the camel Jacob carved out of soap. No way could I carve something that well.

He loved it! I think a good knife / woodworking kit needs to be in his future!
