This last weekend we got to celebrate one of our very favorite people! Grandma Dixie celebrated her 85th birthday and we were so happy we got to spend it with her and family.
The kiddos and I made our way over to Soda Springs on Saturday and we had a great drive. I love that Jacob gets to sit in the front with me now. Once we got a little closer, we drove around Montpelier and loved seeing the beautiful temple. And then we did the Georgetown tour and visited Mark’s old home, school, and church. It is such a gorgeous valley and we loved our time there.

Then we made our way into Soda Springs and we did the Soda Springs tour. I showed the kids where my grandparents used to live and the street I would walk down to visit my cousins. I showed them the park, the high school where my parents met, the place where the grocery store used to be that my Grandpa and Uncle had, and the geyser. Soda Springs will always have a place in my heart.
Then we got settled in our hotel room and things did not go great that night. Without going into too much detail, Lydie was throwing up, seizures, diarrhea, and was struggling to breathe. It was a long night with not very much sleep. And I somehow managed to pop the air mattress that Ben was sleeping on to top it all off.

Despite the hard night, Sunday was such a wonderful day. We attended my Uncle and Aunt’s ward with them and my Grandma. And then we went over to my Grandma’s house and got everything set up for her party.
It was so nice to see my family again. It was great to spend time with my Uncle and Aunt and my cousin Tanner and his family. Getting together happens far too infrequently and so it was so nice to connect again. We did miss you, Danielle!

Because Lydie had such a bad night – and because nearly everything I had was covered in some sort of bodily fluid – I made the decision to head home. I told myself that we would drive and just see how far we got, but we quickly made the decision to just go all the way.
Jacob was a champ and chatted with me in the front. And Sarah and Ben were wonderful to help Lydie as we made our way home.
We got home around 10:00 and it was definitely the right move to come home. Lydie was instantly so much happier and slept really well that night.
I am so grateful for the time we were able to spend with my Grandma. I love her so much and loved having the opportunity to celebrate her!
