Dishwasher

Jacob made a goal the end of September to learn how to better take care of our home – specifically, how to use the dishwasher! It is pretty amazing when your kiddo voluntarily wants to learn how to do something that is going to make YOUR life simpler!

Let’s just say, I was very supportive of this goal! It wasn’t without it’s hiccups – our dishwasher broke down, not once, BUT TWICE! – after Jacob made this goal. But I feel like I can confidently say that Jacob has learned how to use the dishwasher. We broke it down into steps:

  • How to wash/rinse the dishes
  • How to load the dishwasher
  • Putting in detergent
  • Stating the dishwasher

Sometimes it seems strange to break down a basic job into steps, but it is really helpful for Jacob and helps add more check marks on the path to learning. Jacob is now responsible for the lunch dishes and it has been really nice to have that little load taken off my hands. I am proud of Jacob for wanting to make our home a cleaner, more organized space, and for understanding that he can play a role in that. Keep it up, bud!

If you would like to know more about how Jacob makes goals in our home, we use the Children’s Guidebook – it is wonderful!

How could we be more proud of Jacob. What he demonstrated was initiative and personal responsibility. He is growing up to be a fine young man.
