This year we are studying The Book of Mormon and it has already been so wonderful. Honestly. There is such power in that book.
There are so many resources out there to aid you in your study and I wanted to share what we are using individually and as a family to study this year.
***Rather than adding a bunch of pictures, I decided to just link everything and that way you can check it out and see if it’s a good fit for you.***
Family
As a family we are using The Book of Mormon, of course, to study. We use The Book of Mormon Family Reader and it is a wonderful resource. It divides the Book of Mormon into sections and then has some sample questions to talk about. I love having it broken up into smaller sections rather than feeling like we need to read a whole chapter and the questions really help us to apply what we are reading. Definitely recommend.
We also use the Come, Follow Me – For Individuals and Families guide. This program is absolutely beautiful and has changed my relationship with the scriptures.
We are also using The Redheaded Hostess Weekly Scripture Kits. We used these all last year for our study of the New Testament and really enjoyed them. They are great for my young crew and I love how they divide the week into stories and have accompanying color pages.
Young Children
Even though most of our children are still non-readers, I feel like it is still possible to get them involved. The Christmas before each of our kiddos enters Sunbeams we always give them their own Book of Mormon. They have loved this for family scripture study. Benji got his this Christmas and loves to carry it around the house.
So the three oldest all have their own Book of Mormon that they use {although Jacob is the only one that can read independently}. We also got Sarah and Benjamin each their own Scripture Stories Coloring Book: Book of Mormon. This was totally for added fun and to get them more familiar with the stories.
Older Children
Jacob is just barely entering this new stage. He is definitely getting more independent but also still needs some help. He has his own Book of Mormon but we also got him {several years ago} The Book of Mormon for Young Readers. He really enjoys reading from this and I think it is great for young readers. It has art to go along with the stories and will tell you the meaning of words or clarifies who is talking right along with the story.
He is actually using the reader above to work on his Book of Mormon Storybook project for his siblings. It is awesome!
For Christmas, we also got Jacob My Book of Mormon Study Guide for Kids and Youth from the Red Headed Hostess. He enjoys this but it hasn’t been something he has taken off with either. I think it would be more effective in another year or two when he can be a little more independent with it.
Adults
This is something I am still trying to fine tune a little bit. Last year, I had a great journal that went along with the Come, Follow Me program and it was very helpful.
This year, I got the My Book of Mormon Study Guide from The Red Headed Hostess and even though I am enjoying it and learning a lot, I feel like I haven’t dived as much into the questions and talks included with the Come, Follow Me program and I am missing those.
So I am still deciding how I want to move forward with it.
Another great resource that I love is the Book of Mormon Student Manual for Institute. I love being able to read my scriptures and then read words from prophets and apostles about specific doctrine or events that are happening in the scriptures. It is a beautiful pairing.
Final Thoughts
I remember vividly the first time I read the Book of Mormon and I will always remember the exact verse I was reading when my personal testimony took root. This book is powerful and serves as another testament of Jesus Christ. I am grateful to be able to learn and grow together as a family this year as we really dive into the stories and what we are meant to learn from them.
As I wrote this post, I realized how many resources we have. AND I am grateful for those resources. But, at the same time, sometimes we can get lost in all of the resources too. There is a lot to be said for simply reading, pondering, and letting the Spirit guide you.
So find what works for you, but at the end of the day, just read this special book. It has all you need already inside of it.
If anyone would like a copy of The Book of Mormon, send me a message and I would love to send you one.
