Camp de Vida: Day 2

Day 2 was fantastic! I don’t know if I just stumbled upon the magic schedule sauce last year but I kept things pretty similar – in that each day of Camp de Vida is progressively lighter and it has worked wonders yet again this year.

Morning Devotional

For our morning devotional we studied an oldie but SUCH a goodie. It was Elder Richard G. Scott’s message, Trust in the Lord, given at the October 1995 General Conference. My highlighter could not work fast enough! This talk was so beautiful and amazing.

There were so many good things but here were some of the quotes we talked about the most:

“To trust means to obey willingly without knowing the end of the beginning. To produce fruit, your trust in the Lord must be more powerful and enduring than your confidence in your own personal feelings and experience.

Your willingness to accept the will of the Father will not change what, in His wisdom, He has chosen to do. However, it will certainly change the effect of those decisions on you personally. That evidence of the proper exercise of agency allows His decisions to produce far greater blessings in your life.

His invitation, “Ask, and ye shall receive” does not assure that you will get what you want. It does guarantee that, if worthy, you will get what you need, as judged by a Father who loves you perfectly, who wants your eternal happiness even more than do you.”

So good.

Hypothermia and Frostbite

Mark taught us how to deal with cold emergencies and give first aid for hypothermia and frostbite.

Rescue Breathing

Then we did some amazing acting and Mark demonstrated how to give rescue breathing.

Cross Stitching

Then the highlight for the kids was probably learning how to cross stitch. Sarah already knows but the boys have been itching for me to teach them for a long time now. So I got them each their own little kit and I couldn’t get them to stop the whole day. They loved it and thought it was so “relaxing”. Another great hobby that I can totally get behind!

Sewing a Button

We stuck with our sewing and I taught the kids how to sew on a button. They loved it and it is a great simple skill to have.

Sport Practice

Then Mark took the bigs to the park and they practiced soccer and baseball. Then they played a couple rounds of bocce ball!

Building a Fire

I taught the kids the different parts of a fire and how to build various kinds of fires.

Cooking

Then we ended the day with a little cooking lesson with muffins that they could take on their hike the next day.

Another wonderful day!
