Camp de Vida: Day 2

Day 2 of Camp de Vida was another great one!

Three Mile Hike

We kicked things off with a three mile hike. We are getting something amazing for Lydia to *hopefully* help her enjoy hiking more – but it doesn’t come until next month. So we let Mark and the three bigs go and enjoy the hike together. They hiked Horsetooth Falls and said it was great. The falls were all dried up but they said the scenery was beautiful.

Afternoon Devotional

After lunch, we did an afternoon devotional. The focus today was on what charity is and I gave the kids some scriptural references to guide them if they wanted.

Heimlich Maneuver

Mark then taught the kiddos how to perform the Heimlich maneuver to help a person who is choking.

Knots

This was definitely a HIGHLIGHT for the day. The kiddos loved learning how to tie knots! Fun fact: Mark was a boy scout camp counselor for two years (I think) and so this is right up his alley! They learned how to tie a square knot, a half hitch, and a bowline knot.

Schoolhouse Goals

At the end of every season, I try and sit down with each kiddo and talk about how school is going, what’s going well, and any changes we may need to make. I usually try and incorporate Mark but it doesn’t always work with his schedule.

But we sat down with each kiddo and talked about this last year as a whole and then talked about all the things they are looking forward to this upcoming year. It was a great way to get us excited for this upcoming year and really involve the kiddos in their learning and make some goals.
