We have been patiently waiting for something really exciting in our home and it finally came this November! Back in the spring, we learned about a new product that was being developed for individuals of all ages with physical limitations. We call it our “Huckleberry Cart” and it is incredible. Basically, Mark (or whoever) acts as a “sherpa” and wears a backpack type product, which is connected to a cart. The cart is so cozy, roomy, and safe with all of it’s harnesses and belts. It was created by a Dad of a daughter with special needs and what he was able to create is amazing. The whole time Mark was setting it up he couldn’t get over how incredible it was. This allows us to take Lydie on ALL the hikes once again!
Lydie has been outgrowing our traditional hiking backpack and, in all honestly, has never been a big fan of it anyway. We have had many a hike with a very unhappy Lydia. The circumstances have been such that we had stopped going on hikes where it wasn’t a paved trail and we could take her wheelchair. But now those days are over and we are so excited.
Ben got to be our guinea pig and for one time only, Mark took him all around outside to get used to the feel of everything. Ben LOVED it and is now on a campaign that we need two of them. Sorry buddy.
We ended up getting the huckleberry cart a lot later than we hoped, so the weather is definitely not ideal anymore with the cold, but we just HAD go out in it. We went on a simple trail, one almost entirely paved, just to test it out and see how Lydie liked it. She fell asleep and seemed perfectly content the whole time. We were so happy and can’t wait to hit the trails once more this spring.
While we were out on our walk, Sarah said something that I have thought a lot about the last couple of weeks. She said that she wished she could just freeze all of us in our family, at exactly the ages we are now, because life was just perfect. And I feel exactly the same way. Something about that day was just perfect. We are in an amazing sweet spot in our family and I am feeling so very grateful.
