2019 – 2020 End of Year Showcase

A couple months ago, Jacob and Sarah told me that they wanted to have an opportunity to share what they are learning and doing in school with grandparents. So we came up with this idea!

We school year-round, but we do take a much lighter load during the summer. It’s worked out wonderfully for us. So even though we are still doing “school” during the summer time this was a nice way to spotlight all that we have done so far this year. We switched around our original plans but I think it all worked out fine.

Since some family was coming to celebrate Lydia’s first birthday, we decided now was the best time to do it. So after Lydia’s birthday festivities {more on that later this week!}, we gathered family together in our school room and Jacob and Sarah took turns sharing what they have learned and done this year.

It could probably use some fine-tuning but it was a really great experience for the kids. Later that night they each told me how much they enjoyed sharing what they had learned that year. I think it did a lot to boost them, make them feel special, and give them some validation beyond just me.

We also thought this would be a great opportunity to do a little recital for Jacob. When we moved to Wyoming we were unable to find a piano teacher for Jacob and so I began teaching him. We ended up pretty much starting over, and even though that was discouraging {for both of us!} I think it was the best thing to do. Jacob has improved a lot and I think has a really good foundation now.

This year he played, The Trumpet Song, Catch a Falling Star, and I Just Can’t Wait to Be King from The Lion King.

We are going to call it a WIN! Here’s to a NEW tradition!
